Youth Led Prevention (YLP)
YLP is a youth leadership program offered to all Geauga County middle and high schools. The YLP mission is to both encourage and train youth to become active citizens, agents for community change, and act as role models and advocates for healthy life styles among peers.
YLP provides youth leadership training, school advisor support, and two annual county-wide activities; Camp Burton middle school leadership camp, and Youth Summit high school symposium. YLP also sponsors the Youth Advisory Council (YAC), made up of youth representatives from each school district that guide the year’s focus, organize and lead the annual activities, and help design local prevention initiatives such as the YAC Peer Mentoring Program, YAC “E-Race The Stigma” Run/Walk, and “It’s Okay Not To Be Okay” campaign.
YLP hosts 12 groups, called “chapters” in five Geauga County middle and high schools, an alternative high school, a career center, and a residential center in Cuyahoga County. Learn more about the chapters here.
